In his research facility, bioengineering specialist Dr. Kochin collects the dragon balls with the aim of releasing his mentor, Dr. Uirou—a deranged inventor obsessed with world domination—who remains eternally encased in the unmelting ice of the Tsurumai‑Tsuburi Range. While searching for the artifacts, Gohan Son and Oolong arrive on site, only to be ambushed by a horde of beings called "Bio‑Men." Nearby, Piccolo tries to rescue them but is struck by three enigmatic fighters. The sudden cracking of the ice beneath them ends the clash, plunging Gohan and Oolong into its depths.
