Ten years after the events of xxxHOLiC Shunmuki, a subdued Kimihiro Watanuki has assumed control of the shop once managed by enigmatic Yuuko, honoring a vow he pledged to her. He shares his home with companions Maru, Moro, and Mokona, living in quiet harmony, while familiar visitors appear periodically: former adversary turned steadfast ally Shizuka Doumeki and the once‑gifted psychic Kohane Tsuyuri. While Kohane pursues folklore studies under Doumeki at university, they confront a case ideally suited for the shop"s proprietor. Soon, Watanuki is visited by Doumeki"s grandfather, Haruka, who asks him to probe his grandson"s dreams. Within the dreamscape he uncovers how their earlier exploits unfolded from Doumeki"s viewpoint, prompting Watanuki to reveal truths from a decade past and hidden bonds that tether their friendship and the enduring sense of purpose that guides their shared journey for the future.
