During Japan"s Heian period, when malevolent spirits still haunted forests, mountains, and rivers amid the misty valleys and ancient shrines, a young woman travels with her beloved to confront these dark forces while disguising herself as a man. She is known as Kaidomaru, and the Chinese character "Flame" is tattooed on her upper arm—a mark that identifies her among the Four Devas. Kaidomaru fights to honor Raikou Minamotono, her lost love who sacrificed his life protecting Kyoto from the cruel deeds of a princess cursed by an evil ogre. That very princess, whom Kaidomaru once played with as a child, has now become her ultimate enemy in the shadow of the ancient cedar.
