In a lifeless world amid deserts inhabited by insect-like monsters, people are forced to live in mobile cities enclosed by protective domes. To distribute natural resources, competitions between cities are held, so great importance is placed on the military training of future "players." The academy of the city of Zenri admits Leifon Alseif—a young man with outstanding combat skills, yet he has chosen a peaceful specialty. However, he cannot escape his fate: Leifon is transferred to the Faculty of Military Arts and enrolled in the 17th squad, which is reputedly made up entirely of failures. Yet after getting to know his new friends more closely, the protagonist realizes that each of them has a unique story—and he himself changes his attitude toward the necessity of fighting. Music is perhaps the only weak point of this series, but that shortcoming is compensated by interesting, vivid characters and a gripping, well‑crafted plot. The combat side of "Chrome Regios" is no less dramatic than its narrative, and the world where swords coexist with pistols will appeal to fans of action fantasy.
