Kimihiro Watanuki was born on April 1st – and the whole of his life went awry. From an early age, a lanky, awkward bespectacled kid saw spirits, but he had no desire to become a mage or a superhero; all he wanted was to run away from them. When he entered high school, things only got worse – even though you"re told not to go outside. How could you stay indoors when Himawari, his beloved girl, awaited in class, and she, truth be told, paid far too much attention to the local athlete Domaki… Thus the unfortunate hero wandered, fleeing from evil and lamenting his bad fate, until he spotted a cottage in the stone jungle, an old‑fashioned house that his spectral "acquaintances" somehow circled in a wide arc. In that cottage lived Yuko, the mysterious Dimension Witch, who leads an odd lifestyle and also believes in predestination and the law of equal exchange. The witch agreed to help Watanuki rid himself of spirits, but in return the poor boy had to take a job with her on an irregular workday and learn that life is harsh but very interesting.
