Centuries ago in medieval Japan it was still possible to encounter mystical winged girls who were connected to the afterlife and possessed powerful magical forces. They were summoned to help people, but in the harsh reality of that era they became hostages of powerful men who used them as weapons in wars. These pure‑hearted beings could not survive the human filth, dying one after another. The last of the unfortunate ones, kept under strict guard, befriended a young samurai and his wife. Between them arose a special spiritual bond that could not be broken by inevitable separation. Since then, from generation to generation the descendants of this family have lived with a dream in their hearts, hoping to meet that very winged girl now living in the heavenly heights. In our time Yukito Kunisaki, another incarnation of that samurai, after his mother"s death went wandering the world, earning a living with a funny puppet show. On his way in a picturesque seaside town he accidentally meets an unusual girl named Misuzu, stays at her house and becomes her only close person. It turns out that Misuzu has strange dreams in which she sees herself flying in the sky with wings behind her. Is the search for the winged girl nearing its end? Or is it as endless as the heavenly heights?
