Seventeen‑year‑old Siki Tono returns to his family home after an eight‑year absence. Once this decision was made by his father—a harsh and uncompromising head of the ancient Tono clan—the exile was revoked by his sister Akika, who became the new leader of the clan after their father's death. Though Siki, raised under the care of his uncle and aunt—a gentle and sensitive young man accustomed to a quiet life—he is even surprised by the strict rules imposed by his sister, which seem more suited to a besieged fortress than to the mansion of an influential family. Yet the renewed understanding with his childhood friends, the housemaids Hisuui and Kohaku, helps Siki get through curfew and enjoy the modest pleasures of an ordinary Japanese boy. But is he really ordinary? Are he, his sister, the family, and those around him normal? Is the world, drawn with strange lines whose intersections are knots that unravel the very fabric of reality, normal? And why does an unimaginably beautiful girl he met in a park ask: "Why did you kill me yesterday?"
