Demons have now become a common sight around the realm of Midland, which has slipped into turmoil. The swordsman Guts still cannot remain in one spot for long because of his demonic mark. He could always fend off threats when he was alone, but now he faces the extra burden of guarding former Commander Casca, a husk of her former self who neither recalls nor trusts him. They never find a moment"s pause amid the ever‑present danger of demons, and they require a sanctuary where Casca can stay safe until they discover a cure for her. Their elf companion, Puck, speaks of the enchanted land of Elfhelm, said to be a refuge from the demons that scourge the world. Exhausted and holding only faint hope, they press onward to locate a home—and must still uncover those who caused the madness that compels them. They press on, hoping to uncover the source of terror.
