Under the veil of night, a masked samurai slays five men across Japan"s major cities: three in Tokyo, one in Osaka, and the final victim in Kyoto. The killings are swift and brutal, leaving no witnesses. Police discover that each target belonged to Genjibotaru—a clandestine gang devoted to stealing Buddhist statues and relics, known as the servants of Minomoto no Yoshitune. With no clear motive or evidence pointing to other members, the investigation stalls until a Kyoto temple summons the renowned Kogorou Mouri. The temple"s request arrives after a mysterious envelope bearing an ancient calligraphy puzzle is delivered to the monks, who ask for his help to recover their missing statue. Meanwhile, Conan Edogawa and high‑school sleuth Heiji Hattori join forces to solve the cryptic riddle and locate the killer, while Hattori also seeks his long‑lost childhood sweetheart. Heiji"s personal stake fuels their determination. Using Hattori"s intimate knowledge of Kyoto, the duo combs obscure alleys and ancient shrines, slowly unravelling the truth. Yet before they close in, the murderer strikes again—killing another Genjibotaru member and repeatedly threatening Hattori, ultimately abducting his beloved in a secluded bamboo grove. Only by pooling their skills to illuminate hidden clues can Conan and Hattori halt the rogue samurai"s killing spree and rescue Hattori"s love.
