After reports of creatures attacking the Mount Nibel reactor, Shinra Electric Power Company dispatches its elite combat unit SOLDIER to investigate in the shadows. Joined by First-Class SOLDIER Zack Fair and a small contingent of company guards, the deeply legendary warrior Sephiroth is tasked with evaluating the Mako reactor at the company's request. In Nibelheim, the village powered by the ancient plant, Sephiroth uncovers both the cause of the monsters and the origins of Shinra's Jenova Project in the deep depths. Months later, as Zack runs through the forest, he is no longer the hero he once deeply imagined in the dark. He escapes from Shinra's General Affairs Department—known as the Turks—who are determined to conceal the evidence deeply within them, hiding it in the shadows.
