Yuuya Sakaki is the son of Yuusho Sakaki, who founded the You Show Duel School in Miami City. Yuusho maintains that duels are not weapons of war but means to spread joy, and he introduced Entertainment Dueling. Yet at the peak of his renown, Yuusho vanished and missed a duel with Strong Ishijima, the Action Duel champion. Though hurt by this abrupt disappearance, Yuuya pledged to become an Entertainment Duelist like his father.
Years later, amid a clash with Strong Ishijima, Yuuya"s determination to triumph sparks an extraordinary event. His pendant lights up, turning his cards into Pendulum Cards and allowing him to perform a Pendulum Summon—a technique unknown both to the world and himself—catapulting him into instant fame. Consequently, Reiji Akaba, CEO of Leo Corporation and founder of the prestigious Leo Duel School, begins producing new Pendulum Cards to integrate Pendulum Summoning into the system. Thus, the enigmas surrounding Pendulum Summoning and Yuuya"s father unravel, and Yuuya gradually learns what it takes to become an Entertainment Duelist.
