High‑school senior Seishu Handa earns the admiration of his peers, and that is because nature has endowed him with an unlimited talent for calligraphy that simply cannot help but be admired. The guys respect Handa, and the girls softly sigh at just one of his looks. But Handa interprets the friendliness of those around him in a strange way. The mistaken impression from universal attention throws the young man into confusion, conjuring difficult thoughts that — oh look! — everyone around hates him and simply revels. Trapped in misunderstanding and ignorance, Handa seeks a peaceful life, but fun does not leave him at rest when classmates one by one try to get close to him and, with their actions, further confuse the poor guy in his beliefs. The events of the series take place six years before the events of the original anime series "Barakamon."
