Kyō Nozuki and Sumire Herai grew up together, both dreaming of becoming maikos—apprentice geishas. Upon entering a maiko house, Kyō is judged unsuitable for the role and takes on the position of a live‑in chef. In contrast, Sumire embodies the ideal maiko and receives formal training to attain that status. Despite feeling let down by her own shortfall, Kyō remains upbeat, preparing meals for all residents and cheering them on in their pursuits in the bustling city every day.
