The Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance have endured a seemingly endless conflict for over a century and a half. Within the Empire, young Siegfried Kircheis encounters Reinhard von Müsel and his elder sister Annerose. Kircheis shares a joyous bond with the two striking blonde siblings until their alcoholic father, a minor noble of low rank, consents to sell Annerose as a concubine for the Kaiser. Though furious, Reinhard cannot halt the imperial court"s demands. He and his father soon depart, leaving Kircheis alone.
