Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Gaiden represents the initial OVA rendition of ancillary tales drawn from the Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu book series. It chronicles the exploits of Reinhard von Müsel and Siegfried Kircheis within the Galactic Empire leading up to the decisive Battle of Astarte.
The Silver-White Valley
After completing their training at the military academy, Reinhard and Kircheis are dispatched straight to the icy frontier world of Kapche-Lanka. Their commander secretly plots Reinhard"s demise, acting for a competitor of his sister Annerose von Grünewald.
Dreams of the Morning, Songs of the Night
Reinhard and Kircheis join the Imperial Military Police, revealing the Empire"s corrupt and tyrannical policing methods. Shortly thereafter they are tasked with probing a student"s murder at their former academy.
Dishonor
While Reinhard anticipates receiving the title Count von Lohengramm, he dispatches Kircheis to the synthetic leisure station Kreuznach III for respite. Bored by inactivity, Kircheis aids local officers in tackling a drug smuggling plot tied to an assault on a disgraced former Vice Admiral.
A Hundred Billion Stars, a Hundred Billion Lights
Even as a commodore commanding merely one squadron, Reinhard criticizes his superiors" ineptitude amid a clash with the Free Planets Alliance. Under Vice Admiral Richard von Grimmelshausen"s leadership, Reinhard secures victories and repeatedly confronts Hermann von Lüneburg, a commodore and former regimental leader of the Alliance"s notorious Rosen Ritter.
