Yang ascends to prominence after his celebrated rescue of civilians from El Facil. With an informal double promotion and a surge of press coverage, he documents his inquiry into the Year 730 Mafia—a tightly knit cadre of Alliance officers orbiting the renowned strategist Bruce Ashbey. He probes a shocking assertion from Ashbey"s late widow that could carry sweeping political consequences: the famed war hero was not killed in combat but assassinated.
The Mutineer
Reinhard and Kircheis are assigned to the destroyer Hameln II, moored at Iserlohn Fortress. After earning crew admiration, Reinhard"s command is challenged when the captain suffers severe injuries and transfers authority to him, the next senior officer aboard.
The Duelist
While Reinhard and Kircheis operate in the Imperial capital Odin, he learns of a mining‑rights conflict involving Dorothea von Schaffhausen, an acquaintance of his sister Annerose von Grünewald. Upon discovering Count Herxheimer"s plan to resolve the dispute by duel, Reinhard steps forward to defend the Schaffhausen house.
The Retriever
Following a loss of favor among the aristocracy, Count Herxheimer attempts to flee to the Free Planets Alliance with a pilfered Seffle particle‑generator prototype. Reinhard is assigned to recover both the device and the deserter, but receives only the cruiser Hässliche Entlein because of the mission"s classified status.
The Third Battle of Tiamat
To mark the 30th anniversary of Kaiser Friedrich IV"s reign, the Empire launches an expansive offensive against the Free Planets Alliance. In the ensuing confrontation between the Imperial expeditionary force and three Alliance fleets, Reinhard"s decisive action alters the course of battle.
