At the center of the story is a war between the two largest human federations in space: the monarchical Galactic Empire and the democratic Alliance of Free Planets. Against this backdrop, two military geniuses come to command on both sides of the conflict: Reinhard von Loengram and Wenli Yan. Reinhard is an ambitious, energetic young man hailing from a poor noble family. He has devoted his life to a military career and to fighting the corrupt feudal system of the Golden Bavaria dynasty, which has harmed his family as well. His goal is to unite humanity under a single rule and thereby achieve lasting peace. Wenli comes from an early impoverished merchant family of the Alliance. A lack of funds forced the war‑hating youth to enter a military academy, and then into service, which was a prerequisite for free education. Demonstrating remarkable success in the chosen field of military history—especially strategy—the young officer quickly rises to the rank of admiral, although essentially he remains more of a scholar. Two perspectives on the world and two ways to achieve it collided against the backdrop of a war that has been raging for many years. Each is ready to pay any price for victory.
