Unknown immortal beings known as Ajin first appeared 17 years ago in Africa. When they were discovered, the international community labeled them a threat to humanity because of their ability to use supernatural powers for harm and their resistance to death. As a result, any Ajin found within society is immediately arrested, taken into custody, and held for investigation under strict protocols.
Kei Nagai, a diligent high‑school student who dreams of becoming a doctor, knows very little about Ajin beyond sporadic news headlines. In school, the curriculum teaches that these creatures are not human and should be feared, yet Kei pays little attention to the lessons. His limited knowledge proves useless when a life‑threatening accident that was meant to kill him instead revives him as an Ajin, marking the beginning of a harrowing existence. Forced to escape from authorities and society alike, Kei gradually realizes that others like him may be far closer than he initially thought, and the world is not as empty of Ajin as he presumed.
