Description

The plot is rather simple: In one school, two completely different personalities have been friends for many years—Nagihara Nenjii, a bully and bragger, and Nanaka Kirisato, a studious nerd and top student who is serious to the extreme. In Nanaka"s life, studying occupies her all the time, so she has almost no friends except a childhood friend whom she secretly considers her boyfriend and constantly scolds. Nenjii regularly gets angry and pushes his limits, but he doesn"t outright reject the girl; he"s used to her being around. Basically this is already a typical school‑comedy plot, but this anime is much more interesting.

One day Nanaka finally pushes Nenjii "to the limit," and he publicly explains to her that she actually has no rights over him. Nanaka runs away, slips on a staircase, falls… amnesia and dissociative identity disorder. The girl now sees herself as a six‑year‑old and behaves accordingly, while poor Nenjii is "caught in the middle" – you can"t abandon Nanaka in such a situation, so the fact of this terrible illness must simply be hidden. How? It"s hard but possible.

The most interesting thing in this anime, in my opinion, is that Nanaka soon starts switching between ages six and seventeen and back again. At the same time, the six‑year‑old Nanaka grows up. Poor Nenjii adores and spoils the little one, but is completely indifferent to adult Nanaka. The grown‑up Nanaka becomes jealous of Nenjii"s affection for her little self, while the little Nanaka longs to do good deeds and imagines herself as a girl—a wizard from her favorite anime. The further the plot unfolds, the more psychological moments there are, yet comedy remains top priority here.

Character designs are nice and high quality, closer to the "old style." The music in the anime is unobtrusive; the opening is cheerful, but there"s nothing outstanding in the OSTs, in my view. Overall, the anime leaves a very pleasant impression.
