Yasuo works at a ramen shop and is dating the attractive news anchor Yukiko. Yet his finances are shaky, and after a patron leaves behind a green jacket, Yasuo begins supplementing his earnings by prowling the bustling streets of Tokyo"s metropolis and pilfering passers‑by wallets. This extra income lets him purchase a fine ring for his girlfriend, though she insists he need not buy it and that the gesture is unnecessary. Gradually Yasuo becomes fixated on emulating Lupin with an obsessive passion, devouring every book and film about the master thief and even collaborating with Jigen for a period. When he discovers the Ice Cube diamond in a secret auction, he realizes that stealing it would cement his status as the true Lupin.
