The Holy Grail War is a lethal battle royale that pits seven powerful magi against each other. Each master receives command seals upon entering the war, which allow them to summon Heroic Spirits—known as Servants—to fight on their behalf. In the Fifth War, Rin Toosaka is one of the seven competitors, and she commands Archer as her Servant. Her goal is to capture the Grail, a mystical relic that can grant any wish to its holder. An unexpected participant is Rin"s classmate Shirou Emiya, who inadvertently joins the war and summons Saber as his own Servant. When both masters confront common enemies, they decide to form a temporary alliance and work together against their opponents in the Grail War. They share strategies, exchange information about each other"s Servants, and coordinate attacks to gain advantage.
