Fate/strange Fake revolves around an imperfect replica of a Grail War modeled after the Third Holy Grail War that occurred in Fuyuki. After that conflict ended, a U.S.-based group of magi separate from the London‑based Mage Association gathered data from Fuyuki's war to design their own ceremony. Seventy years later they chose the town of Snowfield as the Sacred Land for a new Grail War. Yet they failed to duplicate every element, so the event functioned merely as a copy that omitted the Saber class and permitted summoning of odd Servants because the concept of a "hero" became blurred. Rohngall and his apprentice, Faldeus, were sent by the Mage Association to probe Snowfield and assess the war"s status. Faldeus, a spy from the U.S. group, immediately targeted Rohngall upon arrival, even though he knew Rohngall was a puppet. He announced that their Holy Grail War had been underway and was genuine, sparking uproar at the Clock Tower, and he wanted to "promote" the initiative to the Association.
