This story begins with Hiromichi Kodjima, the leading batter of the non‑existent team "Likons" in the Japanese Pacific League, heading to Okinawa, a southern Japanese island, to train properly and break out of his streak of failures. There he meets Tou Tokuchi—a pitcher capable of throwing a ball at 134 km/h, and the undisputed king of money baseball games called "One Out." Succumbing to Kodjima"s persuasion, Tokuchi signs an unusual contract with the "Likons": for each out he earns five million yen, but loses fifty million yen for every point lost.
