Sixteen‑year‑old Ren Mikashi, a talented but unsteady player, begins to find himself little by little after enrolling at Nisiura High School and taking the position of pitcher on the baseball team. He is actively helped in this by new teammates, especially catcher Taka Abe and fourth batter Yutiro Tadzima. Together the boys form the backbone of the school team, which, according to young coach Maria Momoe, has "caught a spark" and is capable of much, for example, reaching the national tournament Koshien – a dream of every young baseball player. However, to travel to the national finals held in early August, the heroes this summer must win their own prefecture"s championship in Saitama, where there are plenty of strong opponents. It should be noted that the favorites are made up of experienced graduates, while Nisiura consists of high‑school newcomers who can only rely on team spirit, fighting enthusiasm and the "dark horse" effect.
