In the decisive showdown with Kanagawa"s Sidewinder crew, Project D driver Takumi Fujiwara confronts an unexpected rival: 17‑year‑old Shinji Inui, a high school student. From an early age, Shinji has been behind the wheel and knows the mountain pass where the race unfolds; he also drives a Toyota AE86, identical to Takumi"s machine.
Initially hesitant because of his indifference, Shinji finds fire after watching Keisuke Takahashi battle Gou Houjou. With an unbroken record on his home track, the Tsubaki Line, Shinji could become Takumi"s toughest challenge yet.
