Era of the Shōwa, recent past, postwar ruin still not forgotten. In Nagasaki Prefecture lives Matsutaro Sakaguti, an elderly buffoon who has been in the graduating class for three years. The single mother cannot do anything – there are still seven people at home. Matsutaro himself, the first strongman in the village, prefers to go with a partner to an abandoned mine instead of stupid books, quietly cut coal and spend the proceeds. He was waiting for a state house, but old teacher Simada helped him finish school and personally sent him to look for work. Unfortunately, during the search he ran into visiting fighters, and when he started to fight, the senior of the group knocked him out in one move. That's how fate intervened in the hero's life. Desiring to get closer to his beloved and prove his toughness, Matsutaro entered the capital Sumo school – and he liked it. Respect from others, meat every day, aggression can be released in training – what else does a real man need? Something is needed, but even the naive Matsutaro realized that wishes do not simply fall into one's hands. Master ozeki and great yokozuna champions are somewhere out there, beyond the horizon, but in school every senior looks at him as a squeaker and personal servant. Nothing, the rural kids didn't bring such things, but there, look, even love of a lifetime, incomparable Reiko Minami‑sensei will appreciate the achievements of the former student.
