Because of her childhood experience, freshman Saki Miyanaga detests anything connected to mahjong. When she does play, she remains inconspicuous so as not to attract attention. One day her friend Kyoutarou Suga forces her to join the school"s mahjong club. There she encounters Nodoka Haramura, the former national middle‑school champion, and Yuuki Kataoka, another member.
During a few club matches Saki hides her skill. Yet the president, Hisa Takei, spots her atypical style and sees real promise. She challenges Saki to demonstrate her true talent—showing she is far more capable than assumed. The surprise shatters Nodoka"s ego, and their rapport takes a rocky start.
Saki ultimately joins the club; after resolving the tension with Nodoka, their friendship grows. As Saki gradually rekindles her love for mahjong, the group"s sole ambition becomes clear: to claim the national title.
