Achiga Girls' Academy in Nara once toppled the regional mahjong stronghold Bansei High School. The team moved on to the national semifinals, only to be defeated by the eventual champion; subsequently, the mahjong club was dissolved.
Six years later, elementary student Shizuno Takakamo befriends transfer pupil Nodoka Haramura. Both eventually enroll at Achiga Girls', yet Nodoka departs the school during her second year.
When Shizuno watches Nodoka on TV the next year as the national middle‑school individual mahjong champion, she resolves to restart Achiga's club.
