After school one afternoon, freshman Yomogi Asanaka stumbles upon a hungry stranger beneath a bridge. The man introduces himself as Gauma, an itinerant wanderer who reveals that he is a "kaiju user," someone who confronts the monsters—kaiju—that threaten the city and its residents. That evening Yomogi encounters Gauma again, this time accompanied by his classmate Yume Minami. At the same moment a kaiju erupts in a busy district of the city. Because Gauma lacks skill in commanding the beast, he pulls a glowing pouch and releases an enigmatic device that summons a colossal robot called Dynazenon. The mecha requires four pilots, so it pulls Gauma, Yomogi, Minami and Koyomi Yamanaka—a homeless passerby—into its cockpit. Their battle with the kaiju initiates a deeper involvement with kaiju eugenicists—users who exploit monsters for malicious ends—and sets them on a path to unlock Dynazenon"s full power. Their determination fuels the hope that they can protect their hometown.
