The series picks up where the first season ended. After the summer holidays, the final school year of most main characters is coming to an end. Tomoya Okazaki has made a choice and now lives with his girlfriend, Nagisa Furukawa; he still considers her family a miracle – after all, it is what he had been deprived of for so long during childhood and adolescence. Having understood himself, Tomoya opened up to the world, and now around him are not only his beloved and her loved ones but also everyone he has helped, brought good to, and given a piece of happiness. The main characters have learned the art of living in a large, close‑knit family, loving and helping each other. And now new trials await them – for light does not exist without shadow, good without evil, happiness without loss. If the first season of "Clannad" symbolizes spring and the blossoming of new life, then the second season speaks of autumn, with its lush beauty and inevitable fading, for that is how the cycle of time dictates. Yet in the joint works of Key and Kyoto Animation, with each passing year a simple motif grows louder: the magic of faith, friendship, and love can overcome the pain of loss and turn back time itself.
