Tomoya Okadazaki, a senior student, has become disillusioned with life. After the tragic death of his mother, his father turned to drinking, and Tomoya himself gained a reputation as a hooligan. Instead of preparing for graduation exams, he wanders the school grounds, skipping classes and doing whatever comes to mind. But everything changes when, in spring, he meets Nagisa Furukawa—a sweet and quirky girl who has returned to school. She loves buns, talks to herself, and also dreams of reviving the drama club. By helping Nagisa, Tomoya realizes that life hasn't ended and his heart begins to thaw. Besides Nagisa and the old friend Sunohara, Tomoya"s life is touched by sisters Kyō and Ryo, the strong‑willed Tomoyo, school genius Kotomi—who is utterly helpless in real life—and the truly odd Fuko, a fan of starfish and school weddings. Gradually Tomoya notices that the lives and destinies of many people revolve around him… and he realizes this is no coincidence. The answer lies in a strange world beyond dreams, where a young girl—somewhat resembling himself—is waiting.
