In the new school year, Ryuji Takasu learns that he is not only in a class with his best friend Yusaku Kitamura but also with Minori Kusieda—a girl he has long and hopelessly fallen for. Minori"s friend Taiga Aisaka, nicknamed the "Pocket Tiger" at school, also ends up in that same class. However, Taiga is only a tiger in public; inside she is shy and bashful, harboring tender feelings for Kitamura, which Ryuji learns by chance. "No person—no problem," Taiga muses as she sneaks into Ryuji"s apartment at night. All it takes is a blow to his head, maybe stronger, and he will forget everything… But Taiga fails at that, and Ryuji confesses to her that he loves her friend. At that point the pair decide there"s no need for rivalry, because they can unite and, acting together, help each other achieve the happiness they desire.
