After the catastrophic destruction of their home world, the surviving Barm refugees journeyed toward Earth with the intention of negotiating a land purchase for their relocation. During these delicate talks, Barm"s chief leader Leon was assassinated by his second‑in‑command Olban, who then blamed the Earth delegation for the murder. In the ensuing turmoil, Dr. Isamu Ryuuzaki—an Earth envoy and leading scientist—was shot and killed.
The Barm delegation had arrived with a formal request for land, but the political climate was tense. Soon after negotiations collapsed, the Barm—known as "Valerians" in Starbirds lore—commenced a terror assault on Earth, led by Leon"s son Admiral Richter. He deployed a variety of Mecha Soldiers to attack the planet"s defenses, including giant armored units and mechanized drones. The sole hope against this onslaught was Daimos, a transforming karate‑wielding super robot piloted by Kazuya Ryuuzaki. That changed when Kazuya met Erika, a mysterious girl who turns out to be Richter"s sister. As they struggled together toward reconciliation, Kazuya and Erika realized that not all of the other"s people were evil—and that their own factions were not entirely good.
