In a distant future, within sprawling megacities, cutting‑edge robotics has spawned massive machines called "labors" that serve in construction, firefighting, armed forces, and beyond. Though these machines are purely mechanical, their human operators can still stray into criminality. Because a single labor unit can become a lethal weapon, future law enforcement plans to counter fire with fire by deploying sophisticated patrol labor units known as "patlabors." This narrative follows the Second Special Vehicles Division, a diverse team of patlabor officers striving to combat crime while pursuing ordinary lives amid rising crime rates and technological threats in the city.
