Spontaneous Human Combustion remains a chaotic scourge, turning ordinary citizens into blazing, violent beings called Infernals. The first wave of these incidents involved the original Infernals; later generations evolved into pyrokinetics—humans who can command and harness fire while staying human. To counter the Infernal menace and uncover its origins, Tokyo"s Armed Forces, the Fire Defense Agency, and the Holy Church of Sol united to form the Special Fire Force.
Shinra Kusakabe, a bright and determined third‑generation pyrokinetic known as Devil"s Footprints because he can ignite his own feet at will, joins Special Fire Force Company 8. He vows to extinguish the raging Infernals and bring peace to their tormented souls, aspiring to be a savior for those endangered by the flames.
Yet Shinra"s path is far from heroic. The Fire Force is fractured, with rival units battling each other; reports of abnormal Infernal activity surge across Tokyo; and a clandestine faction claims to hold the key to the fire that killed Shinra"s family twelve years earlier. Confronted with internal strife and external threats, Shinra battles to reveal the truth behind the fiery enigmas that have shrouded him.
