Nina Yamada's biggest aspiration is to meet a guardian who will shield her just as the princesses in her fairy tales are protected. She soon feels that need acutely: when she swallows a peculiar pink sphere that she thinks is hard candy, countless people tumble from the heavens. The sphere she ingested turns out to be the Crystal Pearl, a symbolic relic that sorcerers from another realm battle over. Whoever claims the Crystal Pearl earns the chance to sit for a magical exam that awards them the esteemed rank of professional wizard.
Zero and Ichii, two young men sitting for the test together, quickly realize that Nina carries the pearl inside her and vow to keep her safe until the exam concludes. Though they face a swarm of other candidates chasing the object, their mission is far less harsh than the mortification Nina endures when she arrives at school with two dashing boys trailing behind her.
