Adopting a male guise, young Chizuru Yukimura departs her tranquil household and journeys to Kyoto in pursuit of her vanished father—a physician named Koudou. She quickly discovers that the restless capital is perilous, as a pair of ronin ambush her on the streets. To her dismay, those ronin are killed before she can react by a white‑haired, crimson‑eyed samurai, who is then swiftly eliminated by three members of the Shinsengumi—a special police unit serving the shogun.
Following this event, Chizuru is seized by the Shinsengumi for interrogation. Learning that her missing father is the very individual they seek, their commander permits her to remain under their protection while they investigate his location. While assisting second‑in‑command Toshizou Hijikata, Chizuru gradually realizes how intertwined Kyoto"s turbulent politics and the ominous white‑haired samurai are with her own fate.
