In the eleventh year of the Meiji Era, Japan was left scarred after the samurai shogunate ended and swords were banned. Dissatisfied with these reforms, many former samurai conspired against the new government, igniting a wave of bloodshed. To quell this uprising, authorities built an enormous prison on Lake Biwa.
Tenka Kumou, unofficially tasked with helping the police arrest criminals, also ferries inmates to the lake prison together with his two younger siblings: ambitious Soramaru and enthusiastic Chuutarou. Alongside former Fuma ninja Shirasu Kinjou, the Kumou brothers live a modest and joyful life devoted mainly to study and training.
Yet beneath this seemingly calm routine, the shadow of the "Orochi" curse begins to loom over Oumi city. Legend holds that every three hundred years Orochi reincarnates in a human vessel, heralding an impending calamity. As various factions clash in pursuit of the Orochi vessel—some aiming to seal the curse, others pursuing darker schemes—the city teeters on a knife"s edge.
