Edo was once a metropolis brimming with the vigor and ambition of samurai from across Japan. Yet after feudal Japan capitulated to the formidable extraterrestrials known as the "Amanto," those ambitions appear unattainable. With the former shogunate reconstituted as a puppet regime, a fresh ordinance swiftly bans all swords in public.
Enter Gintoki Sakata, an oddball silver‑haired man who always carries a wooden katana and preserves his samurai identity despite the prohibition. As the founder of Yorozuya, a modest odd‑jobs shop, Gintoki regularly undertakes missions to aid others—though usually in bizarre and unexpected ways.
Supported by Shinpachi Shimura, a bespectacled youth supposedly mastering the samurai path; Kagura, a tomboyish girl with superhuman strength and an insatiable appetite; and Sadaharu, their enormous pet dog who delights in gnawing people"s heads, the Yorozuya confront everything from alien royalty to street gang brawls in Edo"s ever‑shifting landscape.
