Because extraterrestrials known as the Amanto have arrived, samurai of old Japan slip into sorrow and hopelessness. Stripped of their blades and honor, they are now objects of scorn and neglect while the Amanto ruthlessly ravages the land.
To revive the samurai"s standing, leader Kotarou Katsura of the Anti-Foreigner Alliance vows to wipe out the Amanto, even if it means employing brutal tactics. Armed with a colossal mecha, he intends to strike the Shinsengumi—an elite samurai corps sworn to safeguard Edo"s tranquility.
At the same time, Gintoki Sakata, proprietor of Yorozuya, and his companions head out to admire the blooming sakura. Their stroll is cut short when the Shinsengumi arrive, accusing Gintoki of usurping their viewing spot. The dispute erupts into a heated clash, which the two parties resolve by playing rock‑paper‑scissors, though with a savage twist. Their unusual method leaves both sides oddly satisfied, and the city breathes a brief sigh of relief.
