The story unfolds at the Shinigami Weapon Academy. Three teams, each consisting of a weapon master and their partner who can transform into an animate weapon, compete to create the "Scythe of Death" faster than the others. The "Scythe of Death" is the highest title for a weapon, and the weapon that attains it will serve the Shinigami themselves. To create the "Scythe of Death," a team must gather 99 souls of fallen humans and one witch"s soul. The diligent Maku and Soul Ite, the fearless Black Star and patient Tsubaki, the symmetry‑obsessed Kid and the sisters Patty and Liz—these are the three teams that will compete against each other. They must not only collect souls but also attend the academy, growing stronger each day, and defend the City of Death from powerful creatures craving power and harboring treacherous plans.
