Soul Eater NOT! unfolds as a spin‑off and side narrative set one year before the original Soul Eater timeline. At the Death Weapon Meister Academy, individuals born with the ability to become weapons and those who can command such weapons—known as Meisters—practice to refine their innate gifts. The protagonists from the main series attend the Especially Advantaged Talent division, where they train to become guardians of justice capable of vanquishing dangers that threaten innocent lives—or even the planet.
Other pupils at DWMA possess comparatively modest abilities. Those in the Normally Overcome Target cohort focus less on becoming justice warriors and more on mastering their powers to prevent harm to themselves or others. New halberd‑transformer Tsugumi Harudori encounters Meisters Meme Tatane and Anya Hepburn, soon becoming torn over which of the two should be her partner. They navigate friendship, rivalry, and hidden threats that loom over the academy. Their journey reveals the roots of legends that will later shape DWMA"s legacy, and as they learn to harness their abilities and settle into campus life, their daily existence proves far from ordinary.
