The protagonist, Mametaro, is an adventurous mixed‑breed pup. He cherishes his owner Iku‑chan and his sweetheart Hanako‑chan deeply, but he cannot tolerate Iku‑chan"s companion Akiyoshi. Told from Mametaro"s perspective, the story unfolds as spring"s warm days arrive. The school and riverbank—merely a normal neighborhood for adults—appear to the young dog and his companions as an endless, mysterious realm.
