Captain Tsubasa tells the tale of a young elementary student whose thoughts and ambitions are almost entirely devoted to soccer. Eleven‑year‑old Tsubasa Oozora began playing the sport at a very early age; while his friends treated it as a casual pastime, he turned it into an all‑encompassing obsession. To chase his dreams at the highest elementary level, he moves with his mother to Nankatsu—a city renowned for its top‑tier primary soccer teams. Though he was a clear standout in his former town, the talent pool in Nankatsu is far deeper, forcing him to sharpen every skill and talent to distinguish himself among the new competitors. Along the way he meets not only rivals but also allies such as the attractive Sanae Nakazawa and the gifted goalkeeper Genzo Wakabayashi, who shares his zeal; these friendships become vital as he pushes toward his goals. His ultimate aim is to represent Japan at the FIFA World Cup, a dream that demands more than raw skill.
