After Germania launched an invasion of a neighboring state in 1939, Europe slipped into a cataclysmic war. As the conflict raged, Germania fixed its gaze on Elystadt, a modest alpine republic whose defenses were weak. Possessing an overwhelmingly superior army and having secured numerous victories earlier, many expected Germania to crush Elystadt without resistance. The situation deteriorated further when German soldiers seized Princess Ortfiné "Finé" Fredericka von Eylstadt as she rode toward a crucial meeting with Britannia. Simultaneously, a German transport convoy suffered a mishap, enabling Izetta—the sole surviving witch—to escape. Recognizing the princess from childhood memories, Izetta employed her arcane powers to rescue Finé from the soldiers. Reunited, Izetta pledged to shield Elystadt from Germania; with her as the last magical ally, Elystadt now harbors hope of turning the tide against the imperialist juggernaut. Their alliance could spark a new resistance that might finally break the Germanic dominance today.
