After Makoto Naegi and the other survivors flee Hope's Peak Academy into the outside world, they quickly become members of the Future Foundation, a body devoted to fighting despair. Just as everything seems to improve, Naegi is arrested and charged with treason for defending a hostile group of Remnants of Despair. Facing the Foundation"s top officials, he and his allies Kyouko Kirigiri and Aoi Asahina confront an uncertain destiny.
The situation worsens when the supposedly impenetrable security system is breached by a familiar figure: Monokuma. To Naegi"s dismay, the mechanical bear immediately declares a new killing game, and moments later the first victim is revealed, signaling despair"s relentless return.
Now the Super High School-Level Lucky Student must solve the puzzle once more as friends and teammates fall around him. Yet there are no class trials; among the sixteen desperate contestants, only one killer exists—and eliminating that person ends this hellish contest.
