This tale resembles a folk legend about an energetic youth who embarks on a journey to find the Life‑Water. He departs after discovering that this precious liquid will bring joy to his village. Along the path he encounters deities and fiends in the realm of spirits... He soon learns that a wicked serpent has taken the Life‑Water, so he sets off toward its stronghold. Overcoming the snake proves difficult because it can use the Life‑Water to resurrect itself. The young hero, Maegami Tarou, presses on bravely with the aid of various beings and the gods.
