After enrolling at Ishinomori Middle School, Tetsuko "Alice" Arisugawa catches her peers talking about an odd rumor. The former occupant of her seat, a plain "Judas," has vanished and is thought to have been killed—poisoned by one of his four spouses. While coping with her mother"s unwanted interference and fending off classmates" taunts, the troubled Alice begins probing the mystery of Judas"s disappearance. Clues steer her toward the home of her next-door neighbor, the eccentric and withdrawn Hana Arai. Following a clumsy first meeting, Hana consents to aid Alice and devises a scheme that might uncover the truth. Together, the two girls set out to reveal what befell Judas, and along the way a friendship may begin to grow. They discover hidden motives, trust slowly forming as investigations deepen together today.
