On her fifteenth birthday, Kagome Higurashi's life abruptly changes when a demon yanks her into the ancient well of her family's shrine. Transported back to a time when yokai roamed freely across feudal Japan, she is relentlessly pursued by these malevolent beings, all craving the mysterious item she unknowingly bears: the Shikon Jewel, a tiny orb of immense power. In this perilous situation, she meets a half-demon youth named Inuyasha, who initially confuses her with Kikyou, the shrine maiden he harbors ill feelings toward.
