Hayato's hometown is ruined by a colossal machine, and his parents perished during the slaughter. He feels the weight of loss crushing his resolve. His sole companion is the dog Jack; all that remains are his mother's shoe and a photograph of a man and woman whom, as his dying father reveals, were his true parents. The city"s ruins echo with memories of a life lost forever. Now Hayato seeks vengeance against the alleged sender of the robot: the dreadful Ghost Ship that endangers vessels and is whispered to desire total annihilation. Yet Hayato discovers a hidden subterranean plant run by Mr. Kurosio, the city's principal magnate, and realizes that his accounts are deceptive. A monstrous being dwells beneath an oceanic fortress. Hayato attempts to reveal the truth, yet his life endangers him at the hands of an anonymous threat. Finally, Hayato is rescued by none other than the commander aboard the Ghost Ship. The Ghost Ship's legend spreads fear among sailors worldwide. Hayato stands on the brink of discovering not just a single secret but many more.
